Training for this activity will be provided to teachers online due to my school's extended Thanksgiving Break. Teachers will comment on their own and comment with ways they could use this application in their own classrooms.

Until then, I found a great video that is a great introduction to what EdPuzzle is and how it can be used in a variety of classrooms. Enjoy!

*Update: Hey all to my blog! If you are interesting in testing out EdPuzzle, feel free to post the link below for others to see. We can provide feedback as well as give examples to others who are interested in seeing how this can be used in different classrooms! I'll post mine below as well.

EdPuzzle 101

EdPuzzle 101

Concept:
Educate classroom teachers how to utilize EdPuzzle in the classroom for in-class understanding or flipped classroom designs.

Goal:
For teachers to successfully understand the elements of EdPuzzle.

Outcomes:
Teachers should be able to create their own video assignments by the end of the activity.

Learner characteristics:
9-12 social studies teachers

Materials: https://edpuzzle.com/
           - Must create a login (free)
           - Laptop
           - A Youtube video

Introduction:
As an introduction, I will begin my professional development with a short video on EdPuzzle that incorporates elements of the website so teachers get a first hand look at what students experience with this website. Introduction Video

Step-by-Step
Step 1: If teachers did not get a chance to create an account, help them create a free account and get their profile set up.

Step 2: Show teachers how to link Youtube video to account by selecting 'Youtube' on menu bar and searching for chosen Youtube video.

Step 3: Shortening the video (optional) by using the clipping tool and dragging to the desired times of the video.

Step 4: Elements of Edpuzzle
   - Voiceover: Teachers can add their own voiceovers to videos that lack audio.
   - Audio Notes: Teachers can record their voices to add explanations to the video.
   - Quizzes: Teachers can add questions throughout the video to check for understanding.

Step 5: Focus on questions under 'quizzes'
Multiple choice questions - Add questions with possible answers much like a review game like quizziz or kahoot.
Short Response questions - Add responses that require students to type out their answers.

Step 6: 'Save' the video and create video settings such as turning on closed captioning and the option to prevent students from skipping questions.

Assessment:
Teachers must create an EdPuzzle and share the link with the instructor.

Conclusion:
In the end, teachers should have a good grasp on the website EdPuzzle and understand all the elements that make it up. By the end they should be able to design their own assignment around this and be able to assign it to a class.

For the final project, I would like to create a learning activity that shows teachers how to utilize videos in the classroom in various ways.

The learning activity will be given in an ePLC format which means all participants will be in different places and will log on to the blog at the same time and interact with each other through the use of comments. They will end the activity by posting their own video activity they created from the PD.

Possible topics to discuss:

  • EdPuzzle (utilize flipped classroom)
  • Youtube Basics
  • TeacherTube
  • Incorporating videos into various lessons (PowerPoint, Stations Activity)
